Here huge Atlantic wave’s crash along the shore making these beaches better suited for walking and sunning than for swimming. However, there are families here splashing around the coast as the waves break over rocks and reefs small pools are formed close to the shore creating natural swimming pools.
Beautiful beaches and spectacular rock formations the Atlantic coastline crashing waves and windswept beaches are popular with surfers worldwide. The East Coast is the number one surf spot as far as power and size of the waves are concerned. A simply magical wild coastline is also home to the “soup bowl” a world renown surf spot and host to national and international events and championships throughout the year.
When the world was created Barbados was given an abundance of potential for becoming a surfer’s paradise the islands location far out in the Atlantic Ocean allows waves to travel thousands of kilometers on the bottom of the sea to finally unload all the power it developed during its long journey over Barbados coral reefs. As Barbados is a coral island and coral reefs stretches all around Barbados coastline providing for unlimited surfing conditions all over no matter whether a swell approaches the island from a northerly or westerly direction or whether it’s moving in from the east of south. Barbados is guaranteed to have surf somewhere along its sure at almost any given day of the year.
The East Coast of the island especially Bathsheba and its famous soup bowl is ideal for more experienced surfers. The west and south coast offer great conditions for those learning to surf and for less experienced surfers. It’s always a good idea to hook up with a local surf instructor or guide as they know the best spots. Legend has it that Bathsheba wife of King David bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft. Legend also says that the surf covered white waters of Bathsheba Barbados rich in minerals in life – is said to resemble Bathsheba’s bath – in both appearance, health giving value.
The rugged East Coast of Barbados is where visitors come to breathe the air, soak in the invigorating Bathsheba pools and feel alive. The East coast of Barbados is well known for its rugged beauty the Atlantic rollers break on the large rocks at sea to form beautiful mist and foam.
