There are a few misconceptions people have about New York City. Some of these misconceptions are it's too dirty, everyone's rude and there's not much to do. Despite the misjudgements about NYC, it's one of the best cities in the world. There are a number of places to go and things to do. Some of NYC's top attractions are The Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue and Times Square just to name a few.
When I think of New York City one of the first things that comes to mind is Broadway and Shubert Alley. It always felt magical strolling down that amazing strip. You can only describe it as overall excitement; to see all of the amazing billboards, flashing lights, street pianists, skyscrapers, etc. The "eye candy" is endless. There is something about Broadway that makes you feel so vibrant and alive. Broadway has the ability of making you feel as though anything is possible. Although I'd visited Broadway and Shubert Alley quite frequently throughout my childhood years, I didn't have the opportunity of viewing my first Broadway show until the age of 16. Seeing a Broadway Show is one of the highlights of NYC. You have your choice between some of the latest shows or a long running classic. Wicked, Chicago, Aladdin, The Color Purple and Phantom of the Opera are a handful of shows currently on Broadway. Recently, my family and I visited NY to see Chicago starring Brandy. The line for the show pretty much circled the block with anxious NY'ers ready to be escorted inside. Everyone was extremely patient and courteous as we waited to be hustled to our seated. The house was packed and you could hear the faint whispers of various conversations transpiring simultaneously. Shortly, the lights began to dim and the curtain started to rise. The actors and actresses were absolutely brilliant. The standing ovation the show received was more than deserved. After the show we had the opportunity to meet Brandy and take a photo with her. She was sweet and personable. She greeted us with a calm tone and warm smile. We marked it off as another successful visit to the Big Apple. So, when you decide to visit don't think of it as dirty but as slightly more lived in than most cities. NYers may not smile a lot but are still helpful, polite and friendly. Most of all you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't check a Broadway show off your bucket list.
